10 Thoughts I Had While Lying in the Grass

If you have young children, you are likely well versed in lying in the grass during a warm summer day...with them running around you, squealing and giggling. If you're a boy mom, you are likely well versed in them running and jumping on you, asking to wrestle or for airplane rides.

In the summer, our backyard is no different than yours.

1. Why? Why does he have to run and jump on me when his Dad is right.here!?

2. If I pretend to be asleep, maybe they will just leave me alone.

3. We really should do something with this yard. It's not very functional...just a patch of grass, a deck that doesn't really make sense.

4. We totally should get a hot tub. Ooooh...or one of those infinity pools.

5. What is wrong with that tree? Is the trunk supposed to have green stuff growing on it? There's definitely something wrong with that tree.

6. Those clouds look like bunnies...bunnies who are pooping little tiny white fluffs...

7. I feel like our neighbours are right on top of us. I can see up onto their deck from here, and into their kitchen. *waves* Hi Ron and Joanne! {note: need to landscape for privacy}

8. Ack! What was that?! Something's crawling in my shirt...get it off get it off get it off!

9. Ok, seriously! I'm not a trampoline! Get off of me!

10. I want a hammock...and a nap.

We love our backyard, as small as it is, and I'm so excited that we are finally getting plans in motion to make it a more liveable space. We love entertaining and having our friends over, so to be able to have an outdoor living area where we can do that will be great!

Now, where's my hammock and my nap?

10 Thoughts I Had While Wedged Between Carseats

Over Christmas holidays this past year, I had the task of sitting between two car seats in the back seat of our SUV as we drove from Florida to Ontario. Not exactly the most comfortable or easiest spot to be in!

1. Good lord my hips hurt! If I don't have a cupholder wedged in my ribs on one side, I have the seatbelt lock digging into my hip on the other side.

2. This might be the worst idea he's ever had. How long is this drive? 21 hours? Not happening!

3. Ok, baby asleep, Bear asleep, maybe I can scoot up front just for a bit and get the seat warmer on my back.

4. Seriously, baby? Seriously?! I can't even move without his mommy-radar going off!

5. Rest stop! LET ME OUT!

6. {upon waking up} Where in the heck are we?

7. I'd like to see him wedge himself back here...my hips were not made for this!

8. Canada flags!! We are almost there!

9. {after boys and luggage are unloaded} I don't think I can move....

10. Next year, I'm flying.

Seriously friends, I don't recommend doing this. Not even a little bit. Sure, sometimes there are circumstances where mom needs to sit in the back with baby, but doing that between a convertible rear facing car seat with a 6 month old and a high back booster with a 4 year old...oh your hips. Your poor poor hips!

But...if you're faced with having to sit between two car seats for an extended period of time, make sure you have access to...

a good book
your phone
snacks
a pillow
a blanket
leg room

10 Thoughts I Had About My Postpartum Body

A couple of months ago, I joined the #takebackpostpartum movement and posted a very vulnerable picture of my bare postpartum belly.

I had no idea the impact and reach that it would have. I shared it on Facebook and Twitter, and the likes started piling up. The comments started coming in and I was honoured to share this piece of myself with those I knew, and those I had yet to meet.

But my thoughts? Oooh....they were reeling.

1. What in hell am I thinking? Take it back take it back take it back

2. Maybe this will help one woman out there appreciate the changes that she's experiencing during pregnancy, and the anxiety she is having about what her body will be like after she gives birth to her baby.

3. How in the world do I have the linea nigra AFTER having him!? I thought that was supposed to come during pregnancy!

4. If I turn just so it looks like I have abs. Go me!

5. I'm decently happy with my midsection. I mean...the flat-rib-area is ok, but the under-the-belly-button area is just this ponch of flab.

6. Welp...it's the only body I've got! Might as well love it. And by love it, I mean where are the cookies?

7. I wonder if I'll ever see my belly button again....

8. Take it back take it back take it back

9. One day, regardless if my stomach still looks like this, I will feel confident in a badass sports bra and running leggings and dominate a race.

10. I'm so glad that I stayed active during pregnancy. This recovery has been a lot easier...

Bonus thought: totally having a glass of wine! I'll run tomorrow. Win!

10 Thoughts While The Baby Is Napping

A parenting perspective today with my 10 Thoughts series. There are many times when I lay the babe down for one of his naps, and he is awake only about 20-45 minutes later. But...there are also the times where he rocks out a 3 hour nap and I am able to be Wonder Woman {figuratively}.

1. Why is Klaus such a jerk? I mean clearly he's in love with Caroline and all, but he's such a jerk to everyone. He says he's pure evil and can't help himself, but really he's a scared little man. It's so sad.

2. Did I eat breakfast?

3. No no no no no no....please go back to sleep....

4. What was I supposed to be looking for, again? Baby gates? Hypnobirthing? Spiritual Birth? No...wait...uhh...yep. Baby gates.

5. This Shane dude is crazzzzzy!

6. Oh Pinterest, you are a fountain of information....time-sucking-infographic-wonderful-information

7. I probably should figure something out for Father's Day.

8. I should also start juicing again, and get Owen to drink them before school. How is that kid living on chicken nuggets, noodles with cheese, granola bars and waffles?

9. Why can't laundry just fold itself? Someone really should get on inventing something for that.

10. Why does iced coffee make me have to pee so freaking much! Man, since having a baby my bladder is like "uh...no...no liquids please!"

Had a funny thought while your babe was napping? Post it in the comments!

10 Thoughts I Had While Running a Half Marathon

A new blog series kicks off today! 10 Thoughts I Had While.... will give you a bit of a glimpse into my thought process during certain tasks

running
doulaing
parenting

Just a little glimpse, some perspective. Today...10 Thoughts I Had While Running a Half Marathon

1. I'm pretty sure I heard Owen go into our bedroom before I even left the house. Man that's early! Colin's not going to like that at all.

2. How are we only to Wharncliffe?!

3.I really need to get some long sleeved shirts that will stay down and not roll when I run.

4. I. Just. Stopped. Traffic. That is so cool! How many people can say that they had a police officer stop traffic so they could run through a major intersection!?

5. Gotta pee gotta pee gotta pee gotta pee. PORTA POTTY!

6. Photographer! Better start running! Smile! Cheese!

7. That is NOT 17km! Wait. Is it? Hot damn I hope so. Oh wait...nope...7km.

8. I freaking love this song (Shut Up And Dance) *wiggles bum and laughs*

9. I got signs!!! They made me signs!

10. That's my husband!!! That's Colin! Oh here comes Owen...*crying*

and a bonus thought: I can't wait to sit down. All I wanted at the end of the race was to get out my running gear and into comfy clothes and a different pair of shoes!

Have you run a long race before? What was going through your brain?
