DIY Upcycled Bottle Vases using DecoArt Transparent Gloss Enamels and Glass Stain

We all have bottles in our recycling bin, and did you know that you can easily create vases out of them, perfect for giving a little bouquet of flowers to a friend, using some of the awesome glass paints and stains from DecoArt?

Materials:
three bottles - these really can be anything. I chose clear cooler bottles that were in the recycling bin
Glass Stains - Pink, Yellow, Iridescent Orange
Transparent Gloss Enamels - Turquoise, Red, Crystal
sponges
plastic palette knives

First, make sure that your bottles are clean and all of the labels have been removed. My bottles had a bit of the label residue left on them, and turned out just fine.

Using your Glass Stains, drip the paint onto your bottles. I chose to stain each of the bottles before applying the Transparent Gloss Enamels to give them more depth to the design. DecoArt has really amazing tools that you can use for application of the glass paints, and the sponges were perfect to ensure that I had an even coat of Glass Stain on my bottles.

To create an accent bottle, I simply apply all three of your chosen Glass Stain colors in a drip pattern from the mouth of the bottle so that it runs down the sides, similarly to candle wax down the side of a taper candle. When all three bottles are clustered together, they will coordinate without being matchy-match.

Here's the hard part. To ensure the best coverage and let the product be its amazing self, you need to wait 24hours between applications. Once dry, go in with a Transparent Gloss Enamel to accent the Glass Stain. I chose to use the transparent tones on just the neck and mouth of the bottle; red with yellow, and crystal with orange.

For my accent bottle, I used the DecoArt glass palette knives to add dimension and an abstract flair to the bottle.

BlogHer Sponsor Love: Tina Dean Designs

Catching up with Tina from Tina Dean Designs this month...man oh man has she ever been the busy bee!

She's been styling some amazing photo shoots with er incredible photographer, Karen, and is even undergoing a redesign and new launch in the next little while. I've been privy to some sneak peeks, and they are gorgeous! Stay tuned for those updates!

What has been amazing me lately is the custom designs that Tina is creating for some amazing eco-chic celebrities.

Eco-tote created for Tenley Molzahn

detail

Such an awesome bag! Tina has such impeccable attention to detail. For Tenley's bag, she matched the polka dot lining to the ribbon, and added in a funky bamboo handle. Then, there's a slight green fleck in the bag to carry that element through for a cohesive design.

Absolutely amazing!

Fabulous Finds Friday: Wallpapered Filing Cabinet

One thing that I want to be sure to do this year, is keep really great records.

Yes, I have Quickbooks for all things electronic and financial...but I also need somewhere for all of my receipts, client notes, design sheets and drawings.

This is a brilliant idea if you have an old dingy filing cabinet at home, that just needs a little TLC

I'm hoping to find a really great chevron wallpaper to keep with my new brand and clean look. If you have any wallpaper suggestions, leave me a comment! I'd love to see them!

This definitely will make keeping tidy client and financial files much easier!

Have a great weekend!

Fabulous Finds Friday: Shabby Chic Cork Boards

I have a ratty old cork board that I've tried to spruce up with some black spray paint...and it's just sort of...lacking some inspiration.

It's the place that I pin thank-you notes from happy customers...calendars and order deadlines...hang the first ornament that started this whole crazy world of Sweet Stella's.

But...it's ugly. It's just a standard cork board, and I painted the frame black at one point, I think for our wedding seating chart. It's old, and dingy and needs...life.

How pretty are those?!

My plan for my new studio {again...in the house that we haven't found yet!} is to have the walls be a soft light dove grey, with charcoal and navy accents, much like my logo. Shabby chic white framed cork boards? Heck yes!!

Fabulous!

Have a great, and inspired, weekend!

Thankful Thursday: Coffee Filters

Aside from everything going on the the Emmy's, I've been off in la-la land dreaming about our master bedroom and my studio.

Yes, I know that I just redid my studio, but I don't feel as though it's quite complete yet.

I created a treasury on Etsy for both the Master and my Studio and will be undertaking a few projects over the next few weeks.

We moved into this house when I was pregnant with our son, and that was a year and a half ago! The only room that we've done is Owen's, and it turned out exactly as I envisioned.

I guess you could say that I sort of feel like we're living in someone elses home. The walls are nearly all tan, aside from my brilliant red bathroom...they're all boring and need some life.

Today, I'm thankful for these...

Coffee filter covered pendant lamps

Absolutely beautiful! And...it just so happens that we have a tonne of coffee filters in our kitchen since getting out Tassimo machine.

Now...my method is going to be different, and I won't be hanging them from the ceiling. I plan to cover our Grono lamps from Ikea in the coffee filters, which first will be dyed (colour pending decision!), and varnish them for protection.

A soft, yet masculine, touch that I think my husband will appreciate rather than ruffles and frills hanging from a pendant.

And of course...a how-to for an upcoming Tuesday!
