Clay Feather Mobiles on Etsy #homedecor

This Spring, I was inspired to make a really gorgeous white and paint dipped clay feather mobile for our nursery and when I started...I couldn't stop.

Mobiles are now a fixture in my Etsy shop and have been getting a crazy amount of notice on Etsy and beyond!

I love them because they are so natural, yet versatile. No nursery? No worries!

These mobiles, all made to order by hand, are great for really any room and don't necessarily have to be hung from the ceiling. Consider a wall that is seemingly too narrow for a painting or photograph; what would you put there to spruce up your space?

Creating a dreamy master bedroom escape, but have two awkwardly positioned windows? Put a wall hanging mobile between them!

Mobiles are available in really any motif. I've done starfish and beach inspired, color themes with sculpted spheres, flowers, and rain drops. The possibilities are endless!

Sweet Stella's: Custom Art and Sculpture for your Home #giveaway #sponsor

I am so excited to share my new mobiles and wall hangings with you! They were created on a whim, inspired by our nursery, and have become one of the best selling items in my shop. There's one up for grabs, that the winner gets to design with me, in the Mom & Baby Giveaway next month!

They have also been inspiration all on their own for custom home decor; sculpted feathers, dipped in metallic paint, that a lovely custom is using as part of a family dreamcatcher - a great alternative to a family tree!

While my shop will be on hold for custom orders for the next few weeks, ready to ship items are happy to be packaged and trotted to the lovely ladies at the post office.

Inspiration changes all the time, but I take my main queues from the boys around me who are crazy, loveable and energetic.

Their dad is a super rational, analytical, practical and mathematical type of guy. He appreciates my art work, even though he can't quite explain why he likes a certain piece over another, and definitely inspires me to keep creating just to get a reaction.

Our eldest is an inquisitive little guy who wants to know how and why things work. He likes putting things together symmetrically, then taking them apart (or smashing them on the floor and making them explode) and is always asking questions while I'm sculpting or painting.

This little guy has already inspired a whole line of mobiles, wall sculpture and custom home decor pieces that are rooted in feathers; so natural and beautiful all on their own, but magnified and made extra special with a touch of metallic paint.

Find inspiration in your every day; invite Sweet Stella's in your home and home decor.

Pops of Color in Sculpted Artwork on Etsy

Looking to pull in a pop of color into your home decor this Spring?

White clay makes for a really amazing canvas for bod pops of acrylic paint to create a striking piece of sculpted art.

In this piece, I've used three really strong colors that are all next to one another on the color wheel. Purple, green and blue, but with a slight twist.

The key here is to choose unexpected tones with the paint colors.

Dark plum
Mint green
Turquoise blue

Dark
Light
Medium

It is perfectly balanced, and yet striking in its abstract application. Great colors for spring and summer!

Trendspotting for 2014

A few weeks ago, I hosted my Advanced Etsy seminar and at the end, we chatted about trends, colors and textures for 2014. I am absolutely THRILLED with where things are going in fashion, and beyond, and cannot wait to bring more texture and color into my shop in 2014.

What will you find?

Well, I will be focusing on tube sculpture, and larger installations like the one that I am in the process of creating for our bedroom.

I love how all of these tubes come together as a community and work to create one large finished piece. The different sizes of the tubes seem to create a pattern and texture all unto themselves, which is really awesome to see. I'll also be using some of the great 2014 color trends in them, so be on the look out for...

Chartreuse
Cobalt
Black
Tangerine
Lemon

Paired with...

Mint
Pale Blue
Powder
Lavender
Sorbet
Oyster

Then in terms of texture, think embossing. Remember these embossed buttons that I created for Tina Dean Designs?

Picture that type of texture on the interior of a bowl. Letting the clay speak for itself, no paint...just pattern. Lace, snakeskin, burlap, baroque motifs.

2014 promises to have luxurious texture, color and pattern both in fashion and in my shop! Stay tuned!!

Celeb{rate} Tuesday: Ms. BossyFunnypants

She's oh so funny, has an amazingly beautiful spirit and is quite the pretty lady, if I do say so myself. To have had the opportunity to create some amazing wall sculpture for her was incredible, to say the least!

Probably the funniest gal of our time, Tina Fey was an absolute delight to create for. I scultped 3 anemones for a wall installation for her...

One large white anemone with a double pebble collar. One medium white with a double pebble collar, and one small black with a single pebble collar.

I absolutely love them, and am confident that they suit her classic style and impeccable taste!

Wedding Wednesday: Sculpted Bridal Accessories

I've been in my studio alot lately...dreaming up some amazingly whimsical designs for brides. Oh...if only I could do it all over again! One of the things that I would most definitely change would be my hair.

Don't get me wrong, it was super pretty, but it was incredibly formal and it just didn't suit my artsy-fartsy personality.

To do it all again...

oversize white ruffle peony on a headband

And for my girls...

black ruffle peony hair clips

I don't know why I didn't think about using my skills as an artist four years ago when we got married - I got crafty and made a few things here and there, but definitely could have gone all out when it came to whimsical designs to make our colours {black, white and lime} really pop. Can you imagine the white ruffle peony with a lime centre and some tendrils in my dark chocolate hair?! Amazing!

Celeb{rate} Tuesday: A Bit of Edge

Taking things up a notch this week...and for the next few weeks actually.

While I am still staying true to my roots with sculpting and being girly, I am bringing a bit of edge to some of my designs. Specifically, ones that are leaving my studio and are on their way to some amazing style icons in Hollywood.

Take the oversized pansy for example...and turn it silver.

Incredible!

It's so awesome to take someone fantastically edgy like Kim Kardashian, and morph an oversized pansy ring to suit her style. A silver pansy with white stamen, on a silver ring. Simple? Absolutely! Stunning? You betcha!

I really really hope that she loves it, and if you love it...let me know! I've already had one order, and will happily create this ring over and over. It's just so much fun to make, and the silver clay takes on a sparkly and swirly property during the firing process.

Love it? Let me know!

Celeb{rate} Tuesday: The Graceful Ballerina

Happy Tuesday everyone!!

A few months ago, I started following Tenley Molzahn on Twitter and Facebook. I had admired her spirit way back when she was on The Bachelor, and was thrilled when she and Kiptyn declared their love for one another {and are happily still going strong}

She just exudes happiness and joy. She's stunning, to say the least, an i am so happy to have created a one of a kind oversized statement ring for her.

A beautiful white pansy with a plum coloured stamen and dark green tendrils. I sketched it out and just knew that it needed to find a home in Tenley's collection.

The creativity flowed into a beautiful reporter style journal with a beachy feel, and an antique skeleton key.

Hopefully she likes them!

What do you think?

Talk-To-Me Tuesday: Celeb{rate}

I've had the amazing opportunity to connect with some incredible people lately...people in high places.

Well...in shiny, sparkly places...and people who appreciate handmade.

Over the next few weeks, I invite you to Celeb{rate} with me on Tuesday's! I'll show you who I'm sending some work to, and the amazing pieces that they'll receive....you can shout it from the rooftops with me...jump on a table and dance...fist-pump...the whole thing!

In March, I had the opportunity to create two gorgeous pieces for one gorgeous women that I really admire and find incredibly inspiring.

First and foremost, isn't she gorgeous?

I am so proud to say that I have painted Lauren a journal, with an antique skeleton key embellishment. The journal itself was inspired by ballet, and her clothing collection. All very flowy, fluid lines and with lots of ribbon detail. Absolutely love it!

Then, I sculpted her a double pansy hair clip on a vintage alligator clip. It's a little heavy, so will have to be worn pointing downwards so it stays put. I just love the white and plum together. So pretty, especially with her California blonde and tan!

Stay tuned on Tuesdays as I reveal more gifts to Celeb{rate}!

Talk-To-Me Tuesday: Hair Accessories

Anyone who knows me in real life {which is alot of you out there! Thanks for your support, friends!} knows that I love me a fabulous hair accessory, preferably in the shape of a bow or a rosette.

I have lots....a few made by a dear friend, and two pieces from a shop that I admire with all of my heart, Pixel&Hank.

Since I've been sculpting a tonne lately, I thought to myself what about hair accessories?!

Silver and pale pink on a silver 5mm headband. The rosettes are approximately 2" each, affixed to the headband with epoxy.

They've hit the Etsy shop, and I just absolutely love the response that they're getting.

And it's not just headbands either!

I've had some custom orders for sculpted hair clips, which have turned out amazingly!

Tangerine! The Pantone colour for 2012!

I'm having so much fun making spring accessories!

Any requests??
