Cherry Peach Muffins with Cage-Free Eggs #giveacluck #recipe #clevergirls #WSPA

I'm sure by now you have heard of the appalling conditions in the agriculture industry for hens producing eggs. Teeny tiny little cages, no place to perch, and forced to produce a food staple, while they are in intense pain and suffering. WSPA's #giveacluck campaign is seeking to raise awareness for these gentle birds, and better their conditions by encouraging people to buy cage-free eggs.

Never heard of cage-free eggs? They are readily available at your local grocery store, and sometimes your farmers market (as long as you know the farm conditions that they come from!). This handy Egg Buying Guide from WSPA helps you #giveacluck and make smart decisions while you are grocery shopping.

I found my cage-free eggs by Rowe Farms in the organic section of the supermarket, and made sure to use the Egg Buying Guide to be certain that they fell under the regulations for cage-free. I was happy to find that there were actually about six different options, and none of them were expensive by any means ($5.50 and under!)

So what is WSPA doing to encourage the cage-free movement? Well they are educating and empowering families to make the switch to cage-free eggs, and encouraging them to sign the Pledge To Choose Cage-Free as well. Such an easy thing to do to help raise awareness, and a great step to take for your family to be a little kinder to the world around them.

WSPA is also encouraging farmers to take a stand and make a change for the better by providing their animals with better living conditions. Change is possible, but it has to start somewhere!

We #giveacluck, do you?

Eggs are essential in our household; from all of the baking that I do, to the regular pregnancy cravings of hard boiled eggs. Now I am educated and empowered to make smarter and kinder choices! Your reward? A super yummy muffin recipe!

Preheat oven to 400F

Combine in a bowl

1 3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder

Add in

1 cage-free egg
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup oil

Fold in

1/3 cup pitted cherries (chopped, fresh or thawed)
1/3 cup peaches (chopped, fresh or thawed)

Once everything is combined, fill your lined muffin tin 2/3 full and bake for about 18 minutes.

These cage-free Cherry Peach Muffins are great for breakfast, served warm with butter, or as an after school snack!

Don't forget to take the Pledge to Choose Cage-Free!

They totally do! I made an omelette with them the other day, not expecting much of a difference, but the flavor was buttery and velvety!
