Color Trends for Spring 2014

As we start thinking about colors and trends for Spring 2014, I thought that I would showcase a few of my favourites here.

What we will see are pastels and neutrals paired with big pops of color. Sort of an anything goes season, with lots of texture and details.

I love how feminine the colors are going into Spring 2014. Really lovely and soft, but with pops like watermelon and masculine touches like graphite.

There are loads of ways to mix and match these colors, too. If you like browns more than blacks, opt for a nice tan leather skirt, paired with an aqua and watermelon floral blouse, pale lime yellow bag and dark raspberry ballet flats.

In terms of home decor, think about switching your linens. Color blocked curtains that are primarily slate grey with a band of watermelon and aqua at the bottom would be perfect in a teen girls bedroom, while adding some lime yellow cushions will update your couch for the Spring.

Have fun with color this Spring!

Trendspotting for 2014

A few weeks ago, I hosted my Advanced Etsy seminar and at the end, we chatted about trends, colors and textures for 2014. I am absolutely THRILLED with where things are going in fashion, and beyond, and cannot wait to bring more texture and color into my shop in 2014.

What will you find?

Well, I will be focusing on tube sculpture, and larger installations like the one that I am in the process of creating for our bedroom.

I love how all of these tubes come together as a community and work to create one large finished piece. The different sizes of the tubes seem to create a pattern and texture all unto themselves, which is really awesome to see. I'll also be using some of the great 2014 color trends in them, so be on the look out for...

Chartreuse
Cobalt
Black
Tangerine
Lemon

Paired with...

Mint
Pale Blue
Powder
Lavender
Sorbet
Oyster

Then in terms of texture, think embossing. Remember these embossed buttons that I created for Tina Dean Designs?

Picture that type of texture on the interior of a bowl. Letting the clay speak for itself, no paint...just pattern. Lace, snakeskin, burlap, baroque motifs.

2014 promises to have luxurious texture, color and pattern both in fashion and in my shop! Stay tuned!!

Santa Fe Color Inspiration

I mentioned last month that Santa Fe and Southwestern style are making a huge surge in color trends and home decor this season, and that my favourite paint company, DecoArt, has released their beautiful new hues for 2013, all of which hit this trend bang on.

Bright and bold, Cinnamon Drop is a brand new color for 2013 in the Americana line of paints by DecoArt. I absolutely love how this color literally jumps off the screen, it's just that bold.

How would I incorporate it into my home decor? There are so many projects that this color trend would be great for....

Painting the back of a white bookcase
Tinting it every so slightly with white to make an ombre set of wooden spoons
Painted crates, stacked in the corner of a bedroom to house books

No matter what application you choose, this color trend will bring a burst of energy into your home decor!

Fall Fashion Forward...a pop of orange

For many, fall means tones of rust, charcoal, mustard and chocolate brown.

For me, it's an excuse to bring in a pop of colour that might not otherwise be seen once summer ends.

Navy+orange...the perfect complimentary colours, in my opinion. I positively love wearing ballet flats in the fall, and these orange ones with a little gold detail are perfect! Add in the taupe satchel, some faded skinny jeans and you have the perfect fall outfit to go to the orchard, farmer's market or pumpkin patch!

What's your favourite pop of colour for fall?

Talk-To-Me Tuesday: Hair Accessories

Anyone who knows me in real life {which is alot of you out there! Thanks for your support, friends!} knows that I love me a fabulous hair accessory, preferably in the shape of a bow or a rosette.

I have lots....a few made by a dear friend, and two pieces from a shop that I admire with all of my heart, Pixel&Hank.

Since I've been sculpting a tonne lately, I thought to myself what about hair accessories?!

Silver and pale pink on a silver 5mm headband. The rosettes are approximately 2" each, affixed to the headband with epoxy.

They've hit the Etsy shop, and I just absolutely love the response that they're getting.

And it's not just headbands either!

I've had some custom orders for sculpted hair clips, which have turned out amazingly!

Tangerine! The Pantone colour for 2012!

I'm having so much fun making spring accessories!

Any requests??
