Linking up today with Confessions of a Stay At Home Mom. Steph has created a really awesome link up - every Wednesday, she will post a prompt to get your creative writing jucies flowing. The idea is to take that prompt and turn it into something creative.
I used to LOVE creative writing in school, and may or may not have written a few short novels, children's stories and been published way back in the day. Finding this of CoaSAHM really brought back the memories, and got the creative juices going!
Today's prompt is...
"And with that he closed the door, sending the crunchy autumn leaves on the front step swirling in the air."
Here's my creative entry...
And with that he closed the door, sending the crunchy autumn leaves on the front step swirling in the air.
He didn't make it far, knowing immediately that leaving meant he would be leaving forever. Knowing in his heart that turning his back meant that she would be gone...forever. Was that something he could live with?
He sat on the step, listening to the wind howling in the trees. The faint sound of a woman crying could be heard, but he couldn't be sure if it were real or just his guilt swelling up inside and playing tricks on him.
As the wind died down, and he got ready to leave, the porch light flickered on. He turned around to see her standing there. She looked as though her spirit was broken.
Shaking and shivering, she opened the door and stared at him. He wasn't sure if he was to go to her and comfort her or if she wanted him to truly leave. He opened his mouth to speak and then...
BANG!
The sound of a single gun shot on a cold autumn evening could be heard for miles.
All he had wanted was to be free, but the decision to actually leave...leave her and their life...was one he almost couldn't bear. With one single gun shot, she set him free.
