This morning, I'd like to introduce you to Beth LeWarn from Once Upon a Puzzle. She has an amazing story to share, and some brilliant words of advice!
What do you do?
I started Once Upon A Puzzle as an offshoot to our 84 year old printing company. As it happens, our offshoot has become the main company, and here we are!
Using our website, we allow customers to personalize any of our stories using their child's information (name, favourite food, friends, pets, and more depending on the story). We then combine the story with our own illustrations and create a one of a kind jigsaw puzzle for the child. The uniqueness of the personalized story and fun of a jigsaw puzzle.
We have coordinating personalized products in the story lines to add gift giving options.
Why do you love it?I love Once Upon A Puzzle because because I've watched as we've taken an idea I came up with and turned it into a budding company. We write out own stories, create our own illustrations, operate our own website and have developed our own programming. Truly "doing" the dream.
What advice do you have for other MOMpreneurs?
My advice for other MOMpreneurs is to keep trying. We've had a bit of a rough start. Starting a company from scratch in the middle of a recession is not something I'd advise. We are plodding away to strengthen our company. We are courting affiliates, investors and advertisers. Slowly but surely we are gaining ground but it hasn't been easy. Somehow, however, I believe the best things in life aren't easy. Maybe that's why we appreciate them.
